Cops and Robbers (Full Story)

Glancing out of the convenience store door to make sure no cops were around, Layne grabbed his messanger bag and ran. The bag was filled with money, at least three hundred and fifty dollars. He'd just robbed the convenience store and wanted to get home without being caught. He turned the corner to his street at a run, almost to the door, when a cop car pulled up, lights flashing and lighting the dark neighborhood.

Layne froze in his tracks, grip tightening instinctivley on his messanger bag.

The cop parked and stepped out, approaching Layne.

"Mind if I ask you a few questions, sir?" the cop asked.

"U-Uh...Sure." said Layne, nervous.

"Well, there was a robbery a little while ago and the man described is a lot like you. So, where were you at 11:30 pm?" asked the cop.

"Walking home." answered Layne, trying not to speak too quickly because he knew if he did, his guilt would show.

"Okay." said the cop, writing something down, "Mind if I take a look in your bag?"

"M-My bag...?" questioned Layne.

The cop nodded, "The criminal had a messanger bag with him when he robbed the store."

Layne didn't know what he should do. He was cornered. Running would only make it worse when he was caught, but either way he was going to end up in jail. There was blood on his t-shirt so he had on a hoody. His bag was filled with money. There was a gun in his back pocket.

Guilt was written all over his face as he handed the cop his bag.

The cop took a look in the bag then looked up at Layne, a questioning look covering his face.

"Sir, you're under arrest." the cop said, grabbing his handcuffs.

Layne's heart skipped a beat. He didn't have an escape from being arrested.

"Hands behind your back." ordered the cop.

Layne obeyed, thinking, I'm so dead...Mom and dad are going to kill me!  He felt a pair of handcuffs slip onto his wrists and tighten almost painfully.

"Are there any dangerous objects on you that I need to know about?" asked the cop.

"...Gun. Right back pocket." Layne admitted.

He felt the gun get pulled from his pocket and saw the cop set it in the cruiser. The cop
then patted Layne down, and, to Layne's astonishment, seemed to pay extra attention to Layne's crotch.

The cop helped Layne get into the car as he read him his rights in an irritated tone. He was working over time becuase of this guy and just wanted to get home. Although, he had to admit, Layne was pretty cute.

But there was one thing that was a bit odd. Layne had the ears and tail of a wolf. It occurred to the cop that he'd just arrested a half-breed for his first time ever. He got into the car as well and drove back to the police station, hearing Layne whining in the back seat. Unsure if Layne wanted to roll down a window or was just upset, the cop rolled the window down a crack. He noticed Layne's tail wag a little in welcome for the breeze.
The cop did feel a bit bad for Layne because his clothes showed he clearly was low on money which showed the reason for the robbery. They pulled into the parking lot and the cop got Layne out and led him inside to where his fate was going to be decided.

After being told he was going to be in jail for at least a week on a charge of robbery and assault on the shop keeper, Layne was put into a jail cell with a few rough looking men.
They all gave him looks as his tail went between his legs and he sat on a bench near the door. The cop left to go talk to his coworkers about Layne.

"He's a half-breed!" the cop said excitedly.

"You really are a cop now, Ace!" said another, slapping Ace, the cop who had arrested
Layne, on the back playfully.

"Yep, once you arrest one of them, you're a true cop now." chimed in another.

Ace smiled proudly and grabbed a coffee, saying, "Well, now that he's in, I gotta get
going. My stupid girlfriend is making me clean."

"Break up with her already!" said the first cop.

"Well, she does cook good Ben..." Ace muttered.

"No, dude, break up with her." insisted Ben.

Ace sighed, thinking, I need to find a guy to date. One that's cute and nice and caring and funny... as his gaze traveled to Layne who looked terrified of the other's in the cell.

"...Are any of thsoe guys really dangerous?" Ace asked Ben.

"Huh? No, why?" said Ben, confused.

"I'm just a bit worried about the half-breed." Ace said, his eyes never leaving Layne.

"Dude, if he get's attacked, he deserved. He tried to kill the convenience store owner."
said Ben.

"You guys know that I don't like inmate-on-inmate violence." Ace replied, going over to the cell.

Layne looked up, hoping that he would be able to get out of the cell.

"Okay, listen up half-breed, I-" started Ace.

"Layne. I don't like being called half-breed." Layne interupted.

"Okay, Layne, I'm going to let you know something. If any of these guys try to harm you, let me know tomorrow." Ace said.

Layne nodded.

"I'll be in at six tomorrow morning." Ace left with that.

Layne curled up on the bench and tried to get to sleep, wishing it was morning already. Ace seemed to almost care about Layne and how he was treated when he was in the cell.

"Hey punk." growled a man, aprroaching Layne.

Layne looked up at the bald headed, bearded man. Tattoos covered the mans arms and a sneer was plastered on his lips. Layne immediatley knew he was in trouble. The man proceeded to punch, kick, and at one point, bite any part of Layne he could reach as Layne cried out in pain and fear. The other cops just watched, laughing and placing bets on the fight. When the man finally left Layne alone, Layne was bleeding, bruised, and terrified. He didn't think he'd be able to sleep at all that night because of fear for being attacked again.

The next day, Layne was woken up by Ace opening the cell door.

"Dammit, you guys are all going to be reported to the chief! He was being abused and you bastards didn't stop it!" yelled Ace, helping up Layne.

He carefully led Layne out of the cell and made him sit in a chair at his desk, handcuffing him to the chair to be safe. Layne was confused by Ace's actions, not knowing what was going on. Ace took out a first-aid kit and started to clean off the cuts, putting anti-biotic on them just to be safe.

"I'm going to work on getting you your own cell from now on." Ace said, glaring angrily at his co-workers.

Layne nodded thankfully and watched Ace walk to the chief's office and knock on the door.
Acting on instinct, Layne started to lick at the cuts that Ace hadn't cleaned yet. Ace and the chief came out and walked to Layne.

"Whoa, Layne, stop! You'll infect those!" Ace said.

Layne stopped, startled by the sudden outburst by the cop.

"Sir, he got these cuts lastnight when his cellmates attacked him. And no one stopped them. This kid obviously can't stay with others in a cell or he may be killed." Ace said,

"Now, I'm respectfully asking if he can get his own cell for his safety."

"Hm...Well, considering the depth of some of these cuts and the fact that SOME people are too incompetent to do their job...I grant your request." said the chief.

"Thank you sir." said Ace, unhandcuffing Layne from the chair.

He led Layne into a new cell that was empty of criminals and shut the door. Layne gave Ace a thankful smile and his tail wagged a tiny bit. Ace smiled discreetly and went to his desk, watching as one by one, his co-workers were brought into the chief's office for questioning.

Later that day, Layne's parents came in to see him.

"Layne! How could you!?" yelled his mother.

"I-I thought that if I could get us some money that you guys would be kinder to me..."
Layne whispered.

"Well you're wrong you little twit!" snarled Layne's dad.

Layne flinched, his tail going between his legs in fear.

Ace looked up at the yelling, ready to interfere if things got out of hand.

"You worthless piece of scum! You got your scrawny ass in jail! Now we'll have to post bail for you! Stupid idiot!" Layne's dad yelled.

Layne whimpered, looking down now. Ace could feel his heart breaking and hurried over to his parents.

"Excuse me?" Ace said.

Layne's parents looked up, both clearly pissed off.

"I understand what your son is getting at here...He was simply trying to help you two
out." Ace said in Layne's defence, "Even though he did break the law. He wanted to help get money to pay for food, bills, that stuff."

"He broke the fucking law!" Layne's dad snapped.

Layne was trying not to cry, scared of his parents and scared that they might hurt the only person who was ever remotely nice to him. Ace had stood up for him after he was attacked in his cell, made sure that he didn't risk infecting his cuts, and now was trying to keep his parents from yelling at him.

His parents gave Ace dirty looks but left the police station. Ace looked at Layne who sat on the bench in his cell, head in hands. Hesitating slightly, Ace opened the cell and walked over to the half-breed.

"Are you okay...?" he asked.

Layne nodded, sniffling a little. Ace gently rubbed Layne's back in hope of calming the younger man. He knew what it was like to have parents who were abusive and rude and wanted Layne to know that there were people who did care in the world.

"...If some one would post bail, even if you didn't know them very well, would you rather go with them than go home?" Ace asked after a minute.

Layne nodded silently, starting to cry.

Ace's mind was set. He was going to help out Layne.

Ace slept outside of Layne's cell that night, not wanting anything to happen to him. Layne slept on the bench, covered by a blanket Ace had provided for him. He'd fallen asleep knowing that while he slept, Ace was going to be protecting him like a gueard dog.

They both woke the next moning as the chief came into work. He shook Ace awake who soon after woke Layne with some breakfast.

"Sir, can an officer post bail?" asked Ace as he looked at Layne.

"Well, I don't see why he or she couldn't..." answered the chief, filling out some paperwork.

"...I want to post bail for Layne." Ace said.

The cheif looked up, startled by the news.

"Why though?" he asked,

"His parents are clearly abusive. When I arrested him, he was already covered in cuts and bruises. When I patted him down, I could feel his ribs fairly well. His dad seemed ready to stab him when they visited yesterday. And you know about my past...And I want to try to make his life a little better by taking him home, cleaning him up, and feeding him." explained Ace, grabbing his wallet to find the money, "I want him to know that there are people who care in this world. I want to take him home...Pretty much adopt him."

The chief cracked a small smile, saying, "You really are a nice guy, Ace."

Ace smiled and pulled out the required money in cash and payed the bail.

"Let him out, boss." Ace said with a smile.

The chief unlocked Layne's cell and informed him that his bail had been posted and he was free. Unsure if it was true or not, Layne came out of the cell cautiously. Ace smiled kindly at him.

"Ready to go home?" he asked.

"Home...?" questioned Layne.

"With me." Ace said.

"R-Really!?"

"Really."

"No joke!?"

"No joke."

Layne lost control of his excitement and hugged Ace in thanks, his tail wagging like crazy. He followed Ace to a yellow hummer outside and got in like he was told.

"There's only one thing you need to know. I do technically have a girlfriend. She does live with me, but I don't like her honestly." Ace said as he drove, "The only reason I let her stay is because she is a good chef. And she probably will be at work when we get there."

Layne nodded, his tail still wagging like crazy. When they got to Ace's house, Ace opened
the door and let Layne come inside. Just like a dog, Layne began to sniff everything, wanting to know Ace's scent. Ace watched Layne out of the corner of his eye, not sure if Layne was house trained or not.

"Hey, toilet's down the hall to the right if you need it. Don't go on the floor or anything." Ace said, turning on his tv.

Layne hurried over to Ace and sat on the couch next to him.

"So...Are you my owner now?" asked Layne, tilting his head.

"Er...I-I'm just your friend. Not your owner." said Ace.

Layne nodded and bit back a yawn. He was tired but wanted to stay awake with Ace. Ace knew that Layne was tired but didn't want to force him to go to bed and decided to let the younger man do as he pleased. Layne could feel his eyes drooping sleepily and yawned quietly.

"...If you want to go to sleep, you can sleep in my room." said Ace, seeing that Layne was
fighting the sleepiness.

"...I'm alright..." Layne whispered, curling up on one end of the couch.

He fell asleep slowly and Ace sighed, shaking his head. Ace picked up the sleeping half-breed and carried him to the bedroom carefully, trying not to wake him. He set Layne down on the bed and covered him with a blanket, a smile on his face. Yeah, he robbed a store, but he had good reason...And he's really, really cute...Maybe I will break up with Jessica...Because of him. Ace thought, going back to the living room.

With this thought in his head, he sat on the couch and started to plan how he would let Jessica know that their relationship was over. But not tell her that it was over because of Layne.

__________________________________________________________________________________
"ACE!!" screamed Jessica, waking both Ace and Layne quickly, "THERE'S A MUTANT ON OUR BED!!"

Ace ran to his bedroom to calm down Jessica as fast as he could.

"No, no, no! He's a half-breed! He's perfectly safe!" Ace said, running to her.

Layne had been so startled by this outburst that he'd hidden quickly under the bed, whimpering. He thought that he'd done something wrong and was scared that Ace would punish him.

"Look, he's just crashing here for a while until he can get on his feet." Ace explained.

"Well he's weird looking!" Jessica said.

"...Layne, come here please." Ace said coaxingly.

Layne crawled out from under the bed, his tail between his legs, whimpering, "D-Did I do something wrong?"

"No, of course not! She was just a bit startled to find you in our bed." Ace said.

Layne wagged his tail shyly and stepped a little closer to them. Jessica stepped away from him in fright.

"Jessica, this is Layne. Layne, this is Jessica." said Ace.

"H-Hi..." Layne said shyly.

Jessica gave Layne a dirty look.

"Whatever you do with it, just make sure it doesn't pee on my stuff." Jessica warned.

"Actually, Jessica, I need to talk to you about something." Ace said.

"And that is?" asked Jessica.

"...I want to break up." said Ace firmly.

Jessica's eyes widened and she grabbed onto Ace's shirt, dragging him to the living room
to discuss the situation at hand. Layne waited in the bedroom, unsure of what he should while he waited.

"Well, she's gone for good." said Ace, walking into the room a few minutes later.

Layne's tail wagged at the news.

"So, is it just you and me here now?" asked Layne.

"Yep." answered Ace.

He glanced out the window when the room seemed to darken and saw dark gray clouds covering
the sun.

"Looks like it's going to storm..." he said.

"S-Storm!?" whimpered Layne.

"Yeah. Why?" asked Ace, sitting on the bed.

"I-I don't like storms..." Layne said.

Ace mentally slapped himself for not thinking about the possibility that Layne would be scared of storms. He should've known better than to think nothing of it. Layne was a half-breed, he was NOT going to like the thunder, lightning, and rain.

"...Layne, get on the bed." Ace said, shutting the curtains and turning on a movie.

Layne blushed and obeyed, curling up on the bed, tail once again going between his legs but this time in fear of the coming storm. Ace got onto the bed with him and gently hugged the shaking man.

"You're going to be okay..." whispered Ace, rubbing Layne's back, "It's just a small storm...It can't hurt you..."

Layne nuzzled Ace's chest, whimpering as it started to rain. Ace had never known what it was like to have some one really want him to be around, but he knew now. Holding Layne close like this, letting the younger man nuzzle his chest, felt amazing. True, Layne was terrified of the storms outside, but knowing that he some one felt they needed hiim made Ace feel good.

"I don't like storms..." whimpered Layne, crying.

"I know but there's nothing I can do about it...If there was I would." Ace whispered, rubbing Layne's back.

Layne nuzzled Ace's neck, not knowing that Ace was sensitive there and was startled by Ace
moaning softly.

"U-Uh...M-My neck is really sensitive..." Ace explained.

Layne blushed and nuzzled Ace's neck again, loving how Ace had moaned before. It helped distract Layne from the noise of the storm.

"You did that on purpose, didn't you?" asked Ace.

Smiling a little, Layne nodded, his tail wagging. Ace laughed and sighed, stretching onto
his back. He felt a pressure on his chest and looked up to see Layne laying on top of him, ears up, head tilted, tail wagging.

"Can I help you?" Ace said.

Layne buried his face into Ace's neck, nuzzling it gently and decided to show Ace how he really felt about him by gently kissing it. The kiss was so light, Ace could barely feel it, but knew what had happened and let out a quiet moan. He let Layne do it a few times before he really got the message that Layne was clearly interested in him not just as a friend.

Flipping them over, Ace started to kiss Layne softly, returning the feelings that Layne had displayed. They both knew that life was going to get better from then on.
